The A-MAYES-ING Adventure: Olympic National Park Part 2

On June 12th, and Day 17 of our adventure, we woke up to see the sun shining through the trees at our camp.  We packed up our camp and headed north and then east along Highway 101.  Our plan was to go to the Sol Duc campground and find a campsite.  The Sol Duc campground is a first-come-first-serve campground so you can't reserve a campsite ahead of time online.  We had originally planned on camping at Kalaloch for all three nights since we were able to reserve a campsite there online ahead of time, but when we realized how much driving we'd have to do to see other parts of Olympic we realized camping at Sol Duc would be a more central location.  We arrived at Sol Duc Campground and found a campsite and set up camp.  We cooked lunch and then packed a sack dinner.  Our plan was to leave mid-afternoon and drive to Hurricane Ridge and explore that area late afternoon and early evening when the sun would be lower in the sky and the colors would be more dramatic!  Check out our pictures!

The sun rays poking through the trees!

Driving to the Sol Duc Campground.

Drove by this enormously long lake!

Crescent Lake.

Hurricane Ridge.  My favorite thing we visited in Olympic National Park.

In the very left of the picture is Mount Olympus.  There are several peaks with tons of snow.  I'm not sure which peak is the actual summit.

Mount Olympus is in the center of the picture.

We hiked about 1.5 miles up to Hurricane Hill to get an incredible panorama of the area.  We could see into Canada!

Hurricane Hill is the hill in the distance!

I set my camera on a flat rock and then set the timer!

This is an incredible shot with the lighting!

This is probably one of the best shots I took on this trip!

I was sitting on the porch area behind the visitor center eating a peanut butter and jelly sandwich when I looked up and saw this deer staring at me!!!  The wildlife is not afraid of people when you have food!!!

This cute little bird posed for me!
