The A-MAYES-ING Adventure: Our first full day in Glacier!

On June 16th, and Day 21 of trip, we woke up and headed to the East side of Glacier National Park.  We drove by the painting-like lakes, Two Medicine Lakes, which were GORGEOUS!  We drove to the Many Glacier Campground and picked out our campsite and set up camp.  At this point it was at least 3 in the afternoon and we didn't want to waste the day so we thought we'd explore.  We ended up hiking 3.5 miles up the Grinnell Glacier trail (one of the most popular hikes in the park) and it was absolutely breath-taking.  We couldn't make it all the way up because the snow was blocking the trail but we made it far enough to see the Grinnell Lake.  The only creepy thing about this hike is there were not too many people on this trail.  Everyone we crossed paths with was heading back and by the time we started hiking back we didn't see ANYONE.  Oh...yeah...and add in the scary fact that this trail is frequently visited by GRIZZLY BEARS!  So you'd better believe that we were talking loudly the entire time and Rollin had bear spray in his hand just in case we surprised a grizzly and they started charging.  But it was such a gorgeous day!

Looks like a painting!

In the distance is the Many Glacier area...several valleys of trails and lakes to hike to!

We literally camped to the right of the giant knife-like mountain in the foreground!

I can't get over this view and the color of Grinnell Lake.

Even when the sun isn't shining on the lake it's still turquoise!

The A-MAYES-ING Adventure: Olympic National Park Part 3

On June 13th, and Day 18 of our trip, we slept in and then hiked to Sol Duc falls and Deer Lake.  It was a 7 mile round trip hike.  Afterwards we hung out at our campsite and rested since the next day we'd be leaving and heading east towards Brewster, Washington!

Here's the road through our campground!

Here's our campsite at the Sol Duc Campground!

What a cutie all decked out in his hiking gear!

And this is Sol Duc falls.

Hammocking at our campsite.  Rollin thinks the lighting make this photo super creepy!

The view from laying in his hammock.  So beautiful.

The A-MAYES-ING Adventure: Olympic National Park Part 1

Thursday morning, June 11th, and Day 16 of our trip we left Porland, OR and drove north up to the Washington peninsula.  Highway 101 circles around Olympic National Park and we drove around the park in clock-wise direction.  Our first destination was Kalaloch Campground.  We set up our campsite and then we drove north to the Hoh Rain Forest.  We walked around the Hall of Mosses and then on the way back to our campsite we stopped at Ruby Beach and walked around and looked at the beautiful sea stacks.  We went back to our campsite, cooked dinner, and then walked to the beach to watch the sunset!

When we showed up at our campsite we saw a bald eagle flying over us with a fish in its mouth!

So mossy!
